Twelve external scholars join the 2018 J&J One Young World Change Maker Program

The names of the 12 J&J One Young World (OYW) scholars participating in this year’s J&J OYW program have been announced, with three scholars selected from each region. They will join the 66 global J&J young leaders taking part in the program this year, making it our largest delegation to date. Read more about our 12 scholars here.

J&J OYW Scholarship Program

J&J has partnered with OYW since 2013, sending 90 J&J young leaders (aged 18-30) to participate in this innovative program so far (years 2013-2017), helping them to build and develop their leadership skills and to discover innovative solutions to health care challenges.

In 2017, the partnership was further expanded with the launch of the J&J OYW Scholarship Program. Its purpose is to build and strengthen external health leadership capacity and, in 2017, eight scholarships were awarded to exceptional young leaders working on the front lines of delivering care.

This year, the program has been scaled to provide 12 global scholarships to front line workers, including birth attendants, healthcare professionals and social entrepreneurs. In total, 4,736 applications were received from 155 countries across the globe, with One Young World having the challenging task of selecting the final 12 scholar recipients. (Note: J&J was not involved in the selection process).

As part of the J&J OYW Scholarship Program, all 12 scholars will receive executive coaching from J&J senior leaders to help advance their ideas and initiatives. In addition, they will be buddied with 2018 J&J delegates who will support them on their change maker journey to further advance their aspirations and goals. They will also attend the annual OYW Summit in October, which this year will be held in October in The Hague, The Netherlands. Here they will have the opportunity to learn and be inspired by world leaders and to debate and formulate innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing health challenges.

“At J&J, we are committed to empowering young leaders across the globe, both within our organization and externally, to affect positive change,” says Annet Eijkelkamp, Director Global Community Impact EMEA, Employee Engagement & Global Partnership Lead One Young World. “On behalf of the entire GCI team, I am delighted to welcome these 12 exceptional young scholars to the 2018 J&J OYW program and look forward to working with them to change the trajectory of health for humanity.”
