In total, 4,736 applications were received for the twelve 2018 J&J OYW Scholarships when applications closed on 9 May. More than double the number received in 2017.
Open to young leaders (aged 18-30) working within health and/or care-giving (ie social entrepreneurs, employees of NGOs, medical professionals, birth attendants and individuals dedicated to health and care giving to underserved communities), the scholarships give aspiring young leaders the unique opportunity to debate and formulate innovative solutions to health care challenges with their peers, and to learn from world leaders.
As well as attending the upcoming One Young World Summit in The Hague, The Netherlands in October, all 12 scholarship recipients will receive individual coaching from senior Johnson & Johnson leaders to further develop their aspiration, strategy and/or initiatives. They will also be buddied with J&J global delegates participating in the program to support them on their OYW journey.
Says Annet Eijkelkamp, Director Global Community Impact Employee Engagement, EMEA “This is a remarkable result and demonstrates the passion and commitment of J&J in strengthening health leadership capacity and empowering those working on the front lines of care to change the trajectory of health for humanity. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in spreading the news.”
One Young World has now begun the selection process and the final 12 scholar recipients will be announced early July. (Note: J&J is not involved in the selection process).
