Creating a movement of Change Makers at the 2018 One Young World Summit

Last week (17-20 October), 1,800 young leaders, including 76 J&J OYW delegates, convened at the 2018 One Young World Summit in The Hague, The Netherlands to learn more about the challenges the world faces today and to be inspired by world leaders to deliver the change they want to see in the world.

Young leadership development is a key priority for Johnson & Johnson. Since 2013, J&J has partnered with OYW to build leadership skills and empower young leaders across the globe to deliver positive change both within J&J, and externally, through the J&J OYW Scholarship Program. This year, J&J had the largest delegation to date, with 64 J&J global delegates and 12 external scholars on the front lines of delivering care, participating in the 2018 J&J OYW program.

J&J at the 2018 OYW Summit

The J&J theme at this year’s OYW Summit was Health for Humanity with a focus on importance on the early years of life to ensure a healthy future. OYW delegates visiting the J&J booth took part in an interactive journey to understand more about the critical stages of pregnancy and the first two years of life, and the work of J&J and its partners, through a quiz, message wall and photo wall. They also listened to interviews each day with the J&J OYW scholars on the impact of their work in the field. Over the course of the Summit, over 1500 delegates visited the J&J booth.

OYW delegates also had the opportunity to attend plenary sessions on Human Rights, Education, Health, Environment and Poverty Alleviation, including a key note presentation on health for humanity by Jane Griffiths, Global Head Actelion and two of the 2018 J&J OYW scholars (George Nkhomaand Radhika Batra). In addition, they attended networking sessions and workshops, including J&J workshops on the thought leadership development and the power of voice.

The visibility of J&J at the Summit was further enhanced through a social media campaign with daily blogsand videos by J&J OYW delegates amplified on social media channels.
