Change the world starts within yourself. I believe we must start with the issues we are passionate about and turn it into daily habit. We can start advocating these issues to our closest community: family, friends, and workplace - and become the living example. We must amplify our messages to wider reach of young people through social media platforms and youth events.

The first change is in oneself. Currently we live in a very complex society where values are forgotten. We must learn and practice empathy with others and stop thinking about personal benefit; only then can we start to change the world. We must understand that our generation is the present and we are responsible to shape the future.

No one individual, no one positive idea has enough power to move mountains. The world exists as a composite of many individual consciousnesses and power to wield big changes are garnered in the collective - having sufficient knowledge and awareness of the world’s problems, making ethical decisions, sharing ideas by speaking out, then finally translating ideas into action. These actions, however big or small, will change the course of the future and this is how I as an individual hope to create impact.

Expanding health leadership capacity

Our continued investment in this important leadership initiative increases collaboration and employee engagement across the organization and provides J&J young leaders with the unique opportunity to learn from inspirational world leaders and to debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for some of the world’s most pressing health issues.

All J&J delegates are supported on their OYW journey by a mentorship framework to help formulate and advance their learnings and ideas into practical solutions. On their return, they join a growing network of J&J OYW Ambassadors becoming change makers for the future.

Not only do we invest in young leaders within our organisation, but we are committed to supporting and championing those working at the front lines of delivering care through the J&J OYW Scholarship Program.

This year, we have significantly expanded the program with 12 global scholar recipients joining our 66 J&J delegates in the 2018 J&J OYW Program.
